1919
Winter 1919. The joy of a newly free Poland instantly collides with the silent terror of the Spanish Flu (Hiszpanka). The busy downtown streets of Warsaw fall under a sudden, invisible siege. Dozens of homemade protective masks were stitched to shield families. Kids were placed under a military-grade family lockdown. Outings were banned, and regular school was replaced by improvised home lessons. When the invisible enemy strikes, recovery requires all the love of a devoted mother. Under the watchful eyes of the family’s holy icons, a three-week battle for survival ended well.
