1924
Early 1924. Uncontrolled inflation makes everyday life harder. Families have to make do with little. The sklep kolonialny (colonial grocery store) is a place of frustration with all kind of unaffordable goods: tropical fruits, fine liquors, tea and coffee, spices of all kind. For many, even sugar is an unattainable luxury. Every good is carefully balanced before being wrapped into hand-rolled cones made of old Gazeta Warszawska newspapers. In this store the most usual purchases are rice and Maggi bouillon cubes. But kindness is free. To soften the buyer experience, the adorable shopkeeper keeps scraps of sugar for little kids.
